I hope this thread falls under this category. I noticed masyado tayong serious para maiba naman let's try this. We don't have an ice breaker category kaya naisip ko ito. I think it is interesting to know (statistically) kung sino-sino sa forum members ang press owners, jobbers, sales reprentatives, managers, suppliers and others. Or perhaps yung iba nag-member kasi interested sila sa printing but not yet in printing business. Come on tell us.

I was a Prepress supervisor from a Colorsep company in Makati, then an application support for gretagmacbeth and a RIP software.

Now, I am an application/work consultant- color management for a digital press and a RIP software evaluator for the LFP.

I manage a small printshop.

I used to own a service bureau and a printshop. More than 35 years na sa industry.
I am now into refurbishing and dealership of imagesetter systems. It's less stressful!

more than 2 decades na ako sa printing industry,marami na akong napasukan na printing companies d2 sa pinas at sa abroad,sa ngayon
feeling ko napagiwanan na ako sa pinakalatest tecnology meron bang institution na magprovide ng seminars na free of charge,napakamahal po kasi ng mga fees, and2 kasi kami sa probinsya maliit lang ang budget namin.....thanks

Hi! Ed salavarria po, bago po ako sa printing business and I happened to be one of the co owner. We have acquired a kord 62 Heidelberg machine 4 months ago pero until now wala pa rin profit. Kasi right now Im working in U.A.E. and Im planning to be back coming December'07. Wife ko lang ang nagma manage at yung mga In Laws ko. By the way taga Greenfields I Novaliches Quezon City nga pala ako. Baka naman pwede nyo ko matulungan on how to mange my small printing business? Thanks!

Hi everyone. I'm Larry Sison. For 6 years Ive worked as Prepress Supervisor and also as Quality Assurance Executive for Alyaum Printing Complex, printer of 4 local newspapers and of about 30 monthly magazines.

Our editorial and printing complex are located in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. In 2008, we are scheduled to construct 2 printing facilities in other cities.

In March 2006, Alyaum won Best in Print in Asia (3rd Place) during the Asian Media Awards printing competition. December that same year, our company was awarded the Ifra ISO 12647-3 print quality certificate....the 2nd newspaper printing plant in the world to be certified.

I was project leader on both occasions.

We are now in the process of arranging a PSO (12647-2) certification from Fogra. I'm hoping we get lucky. We will be needing your prayers on this one. Thanks!

Welcome to the group! Dati din akong Layout Artist before I became Prepress. Medyo hindi madali ang migration ko from the creative field to the technical. But I was lucky to have unselfish people (Boy Kitane and Caloy Gaston) to guide me through the journey.

Feel free to ask questions. I'm sure a lot of them will be answered by many of our experienced friends here.

I'm Fred, I was an OFW then. I was able to re-enter the local job market in the mid 90's. While working, I also learn and run a screen printing shop to support our corporate giveaways business. Due to the financial difficulties of the company I worked for, I decided to leave my work just recently. I'm interested to start an offset printing business since I encounter paper printing requirements from our existing costumers. Im hoping that this forum can help me learn the trade.

I have worked in the industry for 35+ years although it feels alot longer. Working mostly in the offset and gravure field in packaging. At present I work as technical applications manager for a European blanket manufacturer. I cover the Asia Pacific region including the Philippines where I am based. The job enables me to see many companies from multinationals in china with 30 plus machines to little one color presses in Indonesia.
Any advice I can give I will do so willingly. ALthough travelling does not allow me access to this site on a regular basis.

Great to have you with us, blanketman! Btw, what brand are you handling?

I do not want to use this site as a sales tool. All I will tell you is the blanekts are manufactured in German you can work it out from there.

I had been in the printing industry for many years, sent my kids to school as a printing owner and manager, now I am semi-retired. The industry had been good to me, so I will try to be as active as I can in this forum.

Hi Larry, salamat. I have a suggestion for our OFWs in the Middle East who want to come back to the Philippines to start a printing press business.

My suggestion is that they try to pool their resources together -- expertise and money -- to set up their own printing company in the Philippines.

I started out with nothing when I set up my own printing company, but that was more 20 years ago and the stituation then was different from what it is now. But telling the story of my business is not the objective of this post so allow me to reserve it for later.

If you're into prepress, then by all means study the market and set up your own CTF or CTP company. This will cost a tidy sum and I do not wish to suggest that you put all your hard earned money into one basket. So get a business partner and an accountant that you can trust.

In the same light, if you're a printing press operator, you can consider setting up a press running service. This involves large capitalization, so if you can have a business partner in this venture -- by all means do it.

Similarly, if you're into bindery, then you can do the same.

What is important is you keep your costs down so you can price your service competitively, maintain good quality, deliver quickly, and collect even more quickly.

By the way, P300,000 is definitely not enough for a newbie in the printing business. However, P300000 plus your experience and expertise might go a long, depending on your imagination and network in the industry.

With the extensive effects of the global financial crisis many publishing companies in the U.S., and elsewhere, are set to outsource their creative & technical prepress services to either India or the Philippines.

With clients offshore I guess this is a good opportunity for business owners to pool their resources and setup a graphics and prepress outfit.

I agree with you. This is really is big challenge. Filipino printers are known for their "individualism," with everyone wanting to have a full-service printing press. This should not be the case. We should learn to specialize. More importantly, we should learn to cooperate.

HI to all, my full name is Napoleon Guerrero pero Nap lang pwede na, I am working in dubai for 8 yrs na as a Field Engineer.
