Using Soya Oil Based Inks

What are your comments on using soya oil based inks?

Hue strength is Good. Environment frienndly as claimed by some. But it can not replace the ink for the flexo and gravure printing.

When I was doing some work for Manila Times, I noticed that they were using soya oil based ink. Drying time did not seem to be a problem considering that they were practically packing as soon as the prints came out of the web folder.

If you intend to use soy based inks for environment reasons you should ask the ink supplier what is the soy content?. You may find some say soy based ink but have very little soy percentage wise and still use mineral oils. There is a website called the USA soy ink association and that will give you a list of (at least in the US) manufacturers of soy inks.

Excellent suggestion, blanketman! Just want to add that we might want to require our suppliers with some kind of documentation that they're complying with ISO 2846-1:2006 (ink colors as per ISO 12647-2) and as well as ISO 14001 (environment management systems).
