Also, there is a software called SPOTLESS X from Kodak wherein you can substitute 6 colors to cover almost 80-90% of the Pantone colors using Thermal CTP and Staccato screening. In fact, the latest Pantone swatch book was printed using this technology. If you will try to look on the Pantone swatch with a lens you will notice that some of the supposedly solid color is actually screened.
This SPOTLESS X I have to write down. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the info.
Hahaha... you really know how to start a thread topic.
Here's a primer:
Description:
Spotless is a printing method that reproduces spot colors with process colors rather than special inks. Spotless printing uses CMYK process builds or CMYK plus one, two, or three additional process inks to simulate spot colors.
Implementation Overview:
Following is an overview of implementing Spotless.
1. Print the Color Characterization Target on Press
2. Measure Color Characterization Targets
3. Generate Spotless Recipes
4. Proof and Print the Verification Form
