- Hi,
Can you suggest good digital printer for digital proofing for offset jobs?
Are the price really as expensive as a 2nd hand 2 color offset machine? (2.5m up)?
Would a digital printer less than 100k handle digital proofing?
Thank you.
Digital Printer or Digital Press? A digital press sometimes mistakenly called a digital printer or vice versa.
A digital press is more versatile in terms of paper selection and compatibility. You can use offset paper like c2s. Yes a digital printer ( I call it office equipment) can print on C2S but on a limited number of prints.
Aside from paper, the color gamut of the digital press is wider than an office equipment. Office equipment can only give you office colors.
Depending on your needs or volume of your jobs, you need to know the Maximum recommende volume per month why.
Some digital press can print 70 A4 per minute but the max volume per month could only be 300,000. If your job is more than 400,000 per month. the unit will soon be damage because it is more than the required max. the recommended volume is distributed in days per month. meaning do not run the 300k in 1 day and rest for 29 days.
Be very careful in buying, check the service reputation and technical knowhow.
As for proofing, IMPO i do not recommend a toner base for proofing,
1. it has a heat fusing roller which not one in the industry can really control the heat.
2. Paper is another concern, humidity is the big problem in toner base.
3. Consistency is a big question also.
There are certain brands and models that are really good for productions but not for proofing
But still, depending on your market, it can be a proofer too.
Check your workflow and color management system.
